Acclaimed actor Alan Rickman has passed away at the age of 69, according to reports. He may be best known to a younger generation as Severus Snape in the Harry Potter films, but Alan Rickman’s three-decade-plus career included films like Die Hard, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Sense and Sensibility, Galaxy Quest, and countless TV and mini-series roles. The actor died from cancer, a statement said.
JK Rowling was one of the first to post a tribute to the London-born actor:
“There are no words to express how shocked and devastated I am to hear of Alan Rickman’s death. My thoughts are with [Rickman’s wife] Rima and the rest of Alan’s family. We have all lost a great talent. They have lost part of their hearts.”
