In a showing that the Caribbean country is heading in a more positive direction toward the LGBT community, the government revealed that it has banned an anti-LGBT Arizona pastor because of his bigotry and hate-filled speeches. Pastor Steven Anderson has been banned from flying into the country.
The preacher is famous for his violent call to actions against the gay community including stoning them to death, and his praise of the Pulse nightclub shooting.
Currently his church, the Faithful World Baptist Church in Tempe Arizona, has been touring Jamaica for weeks, setting up speaking engagements.
A petition calling on Jamaica to refuse him entry attracted signatures from more than 37,000 people. After the government still didn’t ban the preacher, an LGBT rights group wrote to the government, laying out the legal argument against letting him into the country.
