Australia’s High Court has ruled that a national postal vote on marriage equality will go ahead, despite marriage equality advocates’ challenge to the vote. Advocates argued that the postal vote was unnecessary and an illegal use of public funds, but the survey got the go ahead regardless.
Now, ballots will be sent to houses across the country on September 12 and will end after two months. Eligible voters will respond to the question: “Should the law be changed to allow same-sex couples to marry?”
According to CNN: “The postal vote will be voluntary, unlike all other voting in Australia which is mandatory, but will not be binding on politicians.”
Let’s vote “yes” Australia and get the equality you all deserve.
