Red state Arizona does not allow same-sex marriages, but that did not stop the small southeastern town of Bisbee from legalizing civil unions. In a 5-2 vote Tuesday, the town with a population of under 6,000 passed the law that will come into affect next month, regardless of the threat of legal action from Attorney General Tom Horne. The state prohibits same-sex marriage, but the law does not specify how it is applied to local governments, therefore, leaving a loophole for local governments to vote on the topic. In a few weeks, same-sex Arizona residents can get a civil union certificate for $76 and live the married life in Bisbee. [The Washington Times]
