A pop-up restaurant, called June’s, is putting HIV-positive chefs on the front line to continue to fight against the stigma that still surrounds people healthily living with the disease. Casey’s House, the first and only Canadian stand-alone hospital for people with HIV, has opened a pop-up restaurant that will have only HIV-positive chefs. Chef Matt Basile of Fidel Gastro will work with 14 HIV-positives cooks at the Toronto restaurant site.
A recent study showed that “only half of Canadians would knowingly share food with, or eat food prepared by, someone who is HIV+.” The organization then decided to launch the “Break Bread Smash Stigma” event that will take place from November 7-8.
The event had such a great response that it is already sold out, but they are looking to expand the idea!
