Cason Crane May Become The First Openly Gay Man to Climb All Seven Summits

Being gay has reached a whole new height. Cason Crane, 20, began climbing mountains at the age of 15. The first mountain he climbed was Mt. Kilimanjaro with his mother. A few years ago Crane took his passion for climbing and decided to combine it with an advocacy project for the LGBT community. After learning about the suicide of Tyler Clementi, a gay teen from New Jersey who had been bullied, Crane decided to create the Rainbow Summit Project. The mountain climber, who himself is gay, is using the program to raise awareness and funds by climbing the highest peak on each continent, also known as the seven summits. At the top of each mountain that Crane has climbed he opens a rainbow flag in honor of the project. Thus far the young adventurer has climbed five of the Seven Summits and plans to complete the last two soon. If he climbs all seven mountains he will be the first openly gay and the fifth youngest person to do so. [Huffington Post]
