Chick-Fil-A Promises to Stop Donating to Anti-Gay Organizations

Following the lead of companies like Target (which famously backtracked on their anti-gay super PAC donation), Chick-Fil-A has promised to cease donating to anti-gay  organizations after the company’s president came out openly against same-sex marriage and records revealed the fast-food company’s long history of donating to anti-gay organizations. After talks with Alderman Moreno (Alderman of Chicago’s 1st Ward), the Civil Rights Agenda learned that Chick-Fil-A confirmed that it will not donate to organizations with political agendas. In a letter the Senior Director of Real Estate said, “The WinShape Foundations (the charitable endeavor of Chick-fil-A) is now taking a much closer look at the organizations it considers helping, and in that process will remain true to its stated philosophy of not supporting organizations with political agendas.”  In meetings the company executives clarified that they will no longer give to anti-gay organizations, such as Focus on the Family and the National Organization for Marriage. Additionally, in an internal memo, the company said: “[It will] treat every person with honor, dignity and respect-regardless of their beliefs, race, creed, sexual orientation and gender,” and that their “intent is not to engage in political or social debates.”  This statement was placed into an official company document called “Chick-fil-A: Who We Are.” [TCRA]
