Colombia’s highest court has voted 6-3 today to give gay couples the right to marry. The heavily Roman Catholic country already allows civil unions, but may now go a step further by granting marriage rights. President Juan Manuel Santos said that by denying gay couples the right to marry is unconstitutional and discriminatory.

Last year, Colombia’s court also ruled that gay and lesbian couples have the right to adopt children. [ABC]
