The CW Reboots 80’s Soap ‘Dynasty’

Another day, another reboot and this time it’s the 80’s soap Dynasty. The CW announced earlier this month the show’s pickup to premiere this fall. Gossip Girl creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage are tweaking the original concept with a modern look at the one percent and their first-world problems.

The most notable is the diverse cast including making main character Cristal, played by Linda Evans in the original, Latina (Nathalie Kelly) along with the rest of her side of the family. There is also a definite queer presence with Steven Carrington (James Makay) who is seen tossing the sheets with Empire alum Rafael de La Fuente. The original show couldn’t quite explore fully a gay character at the time even though it was progressive to have that kind of representation on television.

By the looks of the trailer they are keeping true to some aspects of the original between the feuding clans vying for power including all the sex, catfights, and sweeping staircase.

Where is Alexis though? The shadiest of them all from the original Dynasty is nowhere to be seen. Whoever is cast has some big Joan Collins–sized shoulder pads to fill.
