Openly gay bowler Scott Norton made his mark on bowling in more ways than one. After the bowling star won his second title at the World Series of Bowling Chameleon Championship he was lovingly greeted by his husband Craig Woodward who planted a strike on the all star’s face. The celebratory kiss was aired live on ESPN becoming what is believed to be the first professionally shot footage of a same-sex coupling kissing.
“It is extremely important for me to come out to show other gay athletes, both current and future, that it is important to come out to show that we are just like everyone else,” he had told the Windy City Times. “It’s important to show people that being gay has nothing to do with one’s ability to do anything as a man, least of all compete at the highest level of sports.” [DT429]
