If you’re a fan of things that go bump in the night (get your mind out of the gutter) you might be interested to hear that the Strawberry Hill Gothic Mansion has reopened after an extensive two-year renovation.

Horace Walpole, a 17th century historian and novelist who many credit with jumpstarting the gothic literary genre, built the house close to London. Not only was the structure one of the first examples of modern gothic architecture, it also served as inspiration behind “The Castle of Otranto” what many consider to be the first gothic novel.

Bring a couple True Blood box sets to watch on the plane, and then take a tour of this gothic castle. The mansion is open Sunday through Wednesday afternoons.
