A gay man in Abu Dhabi may face the death penalty for posting pictures of himself dressed in drag on Instagram. Abu Dhabi has some of the harshest anti-gay laws in the Middle East, with lifetime in prison and one of ten countries that can sentence a gay person to death. The 21-year-old from Lebanon was charged for practicing and promoting homosexuality. The courts made the sentencing after seeing the photo of him in “short women’s clothes, wigs, and makeup” along with allegedly posting his phone number
The arrest came after a sting operation was orchestrated to catch men promoting homosexuality.
The defendant denied the charges saying that his friend posted the pic and his number without his knowledge.
