If you overhear people in big cities commenting on the RuPaul-ification of drag culture, tell them they’ve never been to Brooklyn. In the hip neighborhood of Bushwick, Brooklyn (off the L train at Morgan or Jefferson), a two-day drag festival demonstrates that uniqueness, talent, and nerve are not displayed on Vh1, but on the stages that play host to 150-plus acts. Celebrating its fifth year, Bushwig, celebrates the whole spectrum of ‘’Drag’’ and performative gender expressions! And we mean the whole spectrum (last year we witnessed drag stars rolling around naked on the floor, qweens performing in wheelchairs with multiple back-up dancers, and many-a booze-filled beauties belting out their favorite songs).
See why the New York Times said that “Bushwig pushes the boundries of Drag!” from September 23-24.h e event will take place at the awesome Knockdown Center. For those nervous about dressing up and making the walk from the Jefferson L train stop, a free shuttle will be on hand to get you there.
The full lineup is expected soon
