“You don’t need anybody to tell you who you are or what you are. You are what you are.”
John Lennon would have been celebrating his 75th birthday today. His far-too-early death occurred when he was shot in front of his New York apartment building 35 years ago, but his messages of peace and love continue to live on through his music and supporters. “Now that John’s a spirit, he has a different effect on people than when he was alive,” said Yoko Ono. “Spirits talk on a pure level and don’t get distracted by people saying things like, ‘That’s nice, but why’s he wearing that?’ … Of course, it would still be better if John was around.” Currently Lady Gaga along with Yoko Ono are remembering Lennon at the LennonOno Grant For Peace Awards at Reykjavik, Iceland’s performance space Harpa. Ono will also light the Imagine Peace Tower tonight in Reykjavik that will remain lit until December 8, the date of his death. You can watch the lighting live by clicking here.
