Historic Academy Awards Sees LGBT Wins

It was a record-breaking year for minorities at the Academy Awards this year with wins in several major categories. Making history as the first trans-woman to present at the Academy Awards, Daniela Vega from the Chilean film A Fantastic Woman stunned on stage. The film also took home Best Foreign Language film.

Call Me By Your Name was probably the most widely seen of the LGBT nominees, but it failed to take home any of the big awards. Sreenwriter, James Ivory, did take home best adapted screenplay of the book.

Disney’s Coco‘s producers Darla K Anderson and Adrian Molina accepted the award for the gorgeous film and took the time to praise their spouses. “Coco is proof that art can change and connect the world. And this can only be done when we have a place for everyone and anyone who feels like an other to be heard,” Anderson said in her acceptance speech.
