President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama revealed their presidential portraits. Like the presidency, the portraits are a historic first. Both portraits were painted by already-famous artists who are known for their paintings of famous African Americans.
Barack’s painting, by Kehinde Wiley, is the first to be done by an openly gay painter. The picture is unique for a presidential portrait, but not unlike other paintings by Wiley who uses intense greens to serve as the backdrop. The National Portrait Gallery will display the painting.
