London is the most talked about city in the world on Twitter, according to a new study by London & Partners.
In 2015, the words “London” and “travel” were tweeted in tandem more than 630,000 times, beating out Paris, New York, and Rome by a margin of 200,000. In all, the city of London garnered more than 81 million tweets last year, which was more than tweets about Sydney, Tokyo, and Rome combined.
According to London & Partners, some of the words most commonly associated with London were, not so surprisingly, “art” and “fashion.” London is also the world’s most Googled capital city, since 2004, and the world’s most “selfied” city, according to Instagram.
On London’s Twitter prestige, Mayor Boris Johnson said, “With our unbeatable cultural attractions, outstanding dining, and top notch shopping, it’s no wonder that London is the most talked about travel destination on social media. Even better, this online chatter is translating into record breaking visitor numbers and our museums, galleries, and other attractions continue to top the charts. With another fantastic year of world-class events in store, we look forward to welcoming even more fans of London throughout the coming months and the years ahead.”
