Qantas CEO Donates $1 Million to Support Gay and Lesbian Marriage in Australia

Making it the largest donation to the cause to date, Qantas Airways’ CEO Alan Joyce has donated $1 million to support the vote yes campaign in Australia. As a postal vote is already underway throughout the country to decide whether or not gay people should be allowed to marry, Joyce’s donation to the yes campaign will ensure that the country votes for equality.

The donation is particularly significant as Joyce’s base salary is just over $2 million, meaning he has given half his salary to the movement.

“There are 1300 companies that have published their logo to support marriage equality including all the banks, all the airlines and I believe that those companies should go out there and support it,” Mr Joyce told News Corp.

“They have given their logos and support to that campaign before and I have no doubt a large element of the business community will be out there supporting this campaign.”
