Now a ruling striking down the same-sex marriage ban in Florida will definitely be a reason to celebrate Independence Day this year in Florida. Judge Sarah Zabel in the Eleventh Judicial Circuit Court in Miami will hear from attorneys who filed a lawsuit in January on behalf of six same-sex couples and Equality Florida Institute. The lawsuit argues that Florida’s laws barring same-sex couples from marriage violate the United States Constitution by denying them the legal protections and equal dignity. Things are looking good for Florida, as all judges who have heard same-sex-marriage cases since the US Supreme Court ruled DOMA unconstitutional have ruled in favor of marriage equality.
