Serbia may be considered one of the most conservative countries in Europe, but the heavily Christian Orthodox church will soon have its first openly lesbian prime minister.
President Aleksandar Vucic nominated 41-year-old Ana Brnabic to be the country’s designated prime minister. She’d break two glass ceilings in the country: the first woman pm and the first lesbian.
There is only one obstacle in her way, parliamentary approval.
According to Time:
“Brnabic’s nomination is considered part of Vucic’s apparent turn toward the West despite strong pressure from Russia to maintain its influence in the region. The British-educated Brnabic, a marketing expert, had worked for U.S. companies before she assumed her Serbian government job.”
