Defense Secretary Jim Mattis has froze Trumps ban on all transgender troops serving in the military, and he will allow these brave men and women to continue to serve pending a study.
“Once the panel reports its recommendations and following my consultation with the secretary of Homeland Security, I will provide my advice to the president concerning implementation of his policy direction,” Mattis said in the statement. “In the interim, current policy with respect to currently serving members will remain in place.”
The delay will allow the Pentagon to more carefully craft policy concerning issues the impact transgender troops like medical care and, if there is a ban, how they will be legally discharged. [WaPo]
