A sorority has changed its policy to allow transgender women to join the nationwide sisterhood. The Alpha Chi Omega house will soon be one of the most inclusive in the nation and truly living up to its motto “Creating Strong Women,” after it reviewed and changed its policy that formerly prohibited transgender women.
While many sorority houses have individually allowed transgender women to join, Alpha Chi Omega is the first to change their nationwide policy.
“I know that on a national level, it was a question that was starting to come up a lot,” Alex Hansen, the UNM chapter president said. “It’s not something that a lot of chapters nationally have made the choice to have.”
The girls have also welcomed the change by saying that its a step that shows just how inclusive they are as a people and an organization. [Pink]
