Last night, we had the first-ever major win for an LGBTQ-themed movie, and if you sat through the entire four-hour Oscars on ABC, you may be aware of a little television event called When We Rise.
Written by Oscar-winner Dustin Lance Black (Milk) and produced by Gus Van Sant (Good Will Hunting), the series will tell the story of the fight for LGBT rights, ranging from the Stonewall riots to the contemporary struggle for marriage equality. The phenomenal cast promises to deliver, with actors such as Guy Pearce, Mary-Louise Parker, Whoopi Goldberg, and Rosie O’Donnell.
In a statement, Black said: “It’s been the honor of my life to research and craft these stories of family, diversity and equality over the past three years. To have collaborators of this caliber sign on to help bring these stories to life is a tremendous vote of confidence, and I hope a testament to the relevancy and necessity of our continued march toward justice for all.”
Be sure to tune in tonight!
