The Pride Center of Western New York Inc. and Gay & Lesbian Youth Services of Western New York Inc. will receive nearly $250,000 in state funding grants from The New York Department of Health AIDS Institute. The grant comes after SCOTUS struck down parts of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), and ended Proposition 8 in the state of California. The two Western New York agencies that provide LGBT health and human services will each receive $123,449 for a one-year contract period beginning in October.
According to a news release from the NYS Department of Health, the grants were among 41 awards totaling approximately $5.2 million to support health and human services for LGBT individuals, families and communities throughout the state of New York. [WB]
