This weekend, millions of people across the country will sit down with their families for both Easter and Passover (we’d bet there will be some lively same-sex-marriage debate over some lamb). For many, though, the same principles that bring families together during this week, tear them apart. New York City’s Ali Forney Center is using this time of year to let their LGBT youths talk about how religious-family bigotry contributed to their homelessness. In an OpEd from Executive Director Carl Siciliano in the HuffPo: “I need to ask my fellow Christians to wake up to the terrible fact that far too many LGBT youth are being abused and rejected in Christian homes…Many conservative Christians are increasingly preoccupied with fighting against the equal treatment of LGBT people in our society. And no one suffers more harm from this fight and the intolerant climate it creates than the LGBT children of too many of these Christians.”
