Before she clapped hands on the Oscar for Outstanding Performance by a Supporting Actress, Alicia Vikander won big at the Screen Actors Guild Awards last month, delivering a teary acceptance speech.
Jeremy Renner handed off the award for Best Support Actress to The Danish Girl star, whose portrayal of Gerda Wegener in The Danish Girl has been met with critical acclaim this award season.
“My mom’s an actress, so I used to go and watch her on stage at the theater, and I loved to watch her rehearse,” she said. “I was always, I think the most captivated by what I saw … I saw a sudden thrill, an excitement of a collaboration and exchange of camaraderie between actors by fellow actors. And I learned then, and I know still, that acting is not a bubble, that magic only happens between acting companions.”
