While it was revealed that Transparent will return to Amazon for a fifth and final season without the show’s main character played by Jeffrey Tambor, it appears that the award-winning show will end with a blow-out musical spectacular. Show creator Jill Soloway told the New York Times that indeed Transparent: The Musical officially has the green light and will stream on Amazon next fall. The musical, according to Soloway, will not center around Maura Pfefferman, played by Tambor, who was fired after allegations of sexual misconduct, but around his ex-wife Judith Light’s Shelly Pfefferman.
“It will hopefully feel like Jesus Christ Superstar mixed with La La Land mixed with Flight of the Conchords with something more Jewish thrown in,” Soloway said. “A little Yentl.”
“This idea of music rescuing our family was all there,” Soloway added. “So we’re like, let’s just keep blowing on the flame. The Pfeffermans will live on, and that’s what kept us going.”
