From Tony Award–winner Duncan Sheik comes American Psycho, a new musical based on the novel by Bret Easton Ellis, that follows the life and times of Patrick Bateman, a handsome, well-to-do Wall Street banker with a particularly unsavory pastime. The show’s U.S. adaptation begun previews on Broadway this week, coinciding with the release of American Psycho: Original London Cast Recording.
“I didn’t quite see it as a musical, at first blush, at all,” Sheik told the New York Times of his stage adaptation. “It was kind of a revelation.”
“Patrick Bateman talks about music a lot, and they’re in nightclubs a lot; and the lightbulb went off over my head that this might be a way of doing a completely electronic-music musical, and that might be really fun to attempt.”
