An LGBTQ Guide to the 2019 Golden Globe Nominations

Nominations have been announced for the 2019 Golden Globe Awards, which will air on Jan. 7.

For the highly coveted Best Motion Picture award, competing titles are Black Panther, BlackKklansman, Bohemian Rhapsody, If Beale Street Could Talk, and A Star Is Born for the Drama category, and Crazy Rich Asians, The Favourite, Green Book, Mary Poppins Returns, and Vice for Musical or Comedy.

As far as representation goes, both racial and LGBTQ, it’s not a disappointing list. Bohemian Rhapsody tells the story of Freddie Mercury, the band Queen’s bisexual lead vocalist, and The Favourite follows the actual Queen’s female love interests. Even A Star Is Born, which might be the whitest and straightest film in the lineup, stars openly bisexual singer Lady Gaga alongside Bradley Cooper.

Here’s the complete list of nominees that include LGBTQ actors, characters or storylines to root for this year—your gay guide to the Golden Globes.
