Former President Bill Clinton may have been the one to get us into this whole Defense of Marriage Act mess when he signed it into law in 1996, but now Clinton is calling the law unconstitutional in a new op-ed in the Washington PostClinton defends signing the Act because times were different in 1996: “In no state in the union was same-sex marriage recognized, much less available as a legal right, but some were moving in that direction.” Clinton now believes DOMA is “incompatible with our Constitution.” Hopefully, his words will carry major weight when the Supreme Court convenes to debate the constitutionality of DOMA.
