Rumors have been circulating for months now that I Am Cait was dropped from the E!’s fall lineup, and now Caitlyn Jenner confirms that the reality show won’t live past season 2. The show, which drew record-breaking numbers for its season 1 premiere, saw a nosedive in viewers.
“After 2 amazing seasons of I Am Cait, it’s time for the next adventure,” Jenner tweeted. “Thank you E! & thank you to the best girlfriends I could ask for!”
While the show presented an amazing platform to showcase transgender issues. But after season one’s coming-to-terms transition storyline, the second season focused solely on Jenner and her gaggle of girlfriends traveling across the country talking about transgender issues. The show’s message became muffled after Jenner’s very public support for GOP candidates made it difficult for viewers to understand her mixed messages and angered those in the LGBT community who felt that Jenner didn’t represent the community what so ever.
“Caitlyn just wasn’t relatable,” a source said. “Trans* viewers did not see her as one of them.” [PN]
