The trucker “protest” in Canada has become a rallying cry for alt-right trolls and white supremacists. Now, Confederate and Nazi flags can even be seen being waved at the blockades. The rhetoric used by the “protesters” has also devolved into racist and homophobic slurs, as well as militant language, with many of these truckers now calling themselves “soldiers”.
To fight back against the growing movement fueled by racism and homophobia, counter-protesters have been filling up alt-right chatrooms, video calls, and voice chats by blasting “Ram Ranch”. The song is a hardcore, death metal ode to life on a very gay dude ranch.
The song chronicles the…um…erotic lives of 20 cowboys down at the Ram Ranch, all of whom seem to have an insatiable appetite for carnal pleasures. The song, which begins with the lyrics “Eighteen naked cowboys in the showers at Ram Ranch…” is very much NSFW, but when taken into context that it was written and performed as a protest against homophobia and as a way to piss off bigots, it’s actually rather enjoyable.
The protesters using the song have called themselves the Ram Ranch Resistance and use the hashtag #RamRanchResistence. According to the Ottawa Citizen, the movement has helped rattle the trucker convoy by disrupting their ability to communicate, mocking their bigotry, and even pitting them against each other, making them unaware of who is actually an ally, and who is a foe secretly infiltrating the group.
While the song is obviously graphic and has a somewhat immature quality to its vulgarity, it’s a hilarious and powerful way to disrupt the alt-right’s efforts to mobilize.
