Princess Leia’s storyline didn’t end in The Last Jedi despite Carrie Fisher’s untimely death, but J.J. Abrams plans on continuing to include the character. The director will be “using previously unreleased footage shot for Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”
Abrams explains: “We desperately loved Carrie Fisher…Finding a truly satisfying conclusion to the Skywalker saga without her eluded us. We were never going to recast, or use a CG character. With the support and blessing from her daughter, Billie, we have found a way to honor Carrie’s legacy and role as Leia in Episode IX by using unseen footage we shot together in Episode VII.”
Spoiler: Mark Hamill will also return as Luke, even though it seemed as though he died in the last movie.
The movie will be released December 2019.
