Theme park tourists don’t often take the time to experience Orlando itself, but from May 15-18, it’s the perfect opportunity to explore the city and its arts scene with the Orlando Fringe Festival! It’s one of the oldest festivals of its kind in the U.S., and it remains strict in keeping with the official Fringe format: there is no jury determining participants (so even fledgling artists and raw work get the chance to be seen). Further, all proceeds from ticket sales returned to the performing artists. It’s the ideal way to get a taste for the theatre scene in Orlando, even if the sampling is, well, on the fringe of things. Features more than 80 performing arts groups at nine venues around town.
