Looking for a relaxing, social vacation event specifically for queer women and friends? Created over twenty years ago, Womenfest was designed as a safe space for single women, couples, and groups of women to enjoy the beauty of Key West and each other.
For early-comers, on Tuesday, Sept. 6, there is the 6:30 p.m. sunset sail on a luxury yacht, with complimentary food and drink pairings for the next two hours. The official kickoff starts the next day with a poolside welcome party at the festival’s Silver Palms Inn with DJ Citizen Jane. Other events include Ultimate Beach Bash and Cornhole Tournament at Lagerheads Beach Bar, as well as a clothing-optional snorkeling trip. For those with an interest in the arts and humanities, there is the “Women, Words & Art Poetry Reading and Art Exhibition” as well as a narrated bike tour exploring the city’s Art in Public Places poetry installation. Then, of course, there are the high energy parties such as those at the Aquaplex venues and Mangoes, located within the LGBTQ+ entertainment district.
Additionally, the entertainment roster includes a Saturday night show by “The Voice” alumni Sarah Potenza and Katie Kadan. Round off the week with several events on Sunday, Sept. 11, including the “Drunken Drag Brunch” at Mangoes Restaurant and the local tradition of the Sunday Tea Dance at La Te Da.
This year’s festival runs from September 7-11. For more information about Womenfest click here.
