On July 5, Private Chelsea Manning tried to take her own life in her cell in Leavenworth, Kansas. Thankfully, the attempt was unsuccessful, but that hasn’t stopped the US government from making her life even more miserable. The suicide attempt may actually see Manning spending even more time behind bars. They handed down these series of charges: “resisting the force cell move team;” “prohibited property;” and “conduct which threatens.”
Chelsea Manning is currently serving a 35-year prison sentence at the United States Disciplinary Barracks at Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas. In September 2015, military officials again denied her repeated requests to be treated as female for purposes of hair length and hair grooming regulations, a recommended part of her treatment for gender dysphoria.
