Chicago Alderman Tells Chick-fil-A Discrimination is Wrong

Chick-Fil-A’s President Dan Cathy is probably wishing he kept his mouth shut. After he publicly announced his opposition against same sex marriage last week, Jim Henson Co. backed out of a recent kids meal toy deal, Boston Mayor Thomas Menino vowed to block the chain from opening in his city, and now a Chicago Alderman is threatening to do the same. Ald.Proco “Joe” Moreno recently stated that he would refuse to let any more Chick-fil-A’s in Chicago. The bigoted fast food restaurant would move into the hipster neighborhood of Logan Square, but after hearing Cathy’s position on same-sex marriage, Moreno wants to call the deal off. “If you are discriminating against a segment of the community, I don’t want you in the 1st Ward,” says Moreno. The Mayor of Chicago, Rahm Emanuel, supports the alderman’s decision as well, calling the would-be-investment a poor choice since it would not receive any business in the area. “Chick-fil-A values are not Chicago values,” says the mayor. The Alderman would have to violate the city council’s aldermanic privilege in order to prevent the Chick-fil-A from entering the 1st Ward. However, it has not been a problem in the past and it doesn’t look like it will be in the future either.[]
