Chick-Fil-A’s COO Dan Cathy has been catching heat from the media and the LGBT community since he announced the company’s anti-gay stance. When asked about Chick-Fil-A’s association with anti-gay organizations, he confirmed that he is “guilty as charged” for only believing in heterosexual marriages. “We are very much supportive of the family — the biblical definition of the family unit. We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that.” Now, the company has backtracked on its initial position and decided to take a neutral attitude. On Twitter, they posted, “Our mission is to create raving fans; we plan to leave the policy debate over same-sex marriage to the political arena.” Considering the numerous anti-gay policies that the restaurant chain has adopted over the years, this announcement has not been received with much belief and praise. Nevertheless, Chick-Fil-A stands by their word claiming that they “treat every person with honor, dignity and respect – regardless of their belief, race, creed, sexual orientation or gender.” [TR]
