It was 43 years ago on this date when New York City’s queer nightlife fought back against oppressive cops outside of The Stonewall Inn and the subsequent days afterward where the fight raged on in and around Christopher Street. Now, LGBT activists are calling on the city to make Christopher St. a gay landmark. Robert Ziegler, a member of the West Villiage Coalition, would like to see rainbow flags (once again) line the street and “a Hollywood-style walk of fame on Christopher Street from its start at Sixth Avenue, all the way west to the Hudson River.” “We want a walk of fame with pink triangles in the sidewalk to tell people how it all got started,” Ziegler said. He’s already accumulated 200 signatures with the hope of getting 1,800 more. [DNA]
