Giovanni James takes it down a notch in the new video for “Sheri,” the second single off his upcoming EP, Whatchu Want. Born and bred in New York, the stylish hip-hop rocker’s latest track opens a dialogue about self-medicating.

“‘Sheri’ is the savior for suppressed emotions and pain,” James tells Passport. “We all wear a social mask for the sake of getting along, but deep down for a lot of us there is damage. In the song, alcohol is the truth serum and Sheri could be that friend, significant other or booty call etc. that will always take you in. Sheri doesn’t judge you for whatever got you into the latest stupor.”

Catch the new video for “Sheri,” below, along with the singer-producer’s rock-inspired video for “Shame on You,” which cracked Spotify’s Viral 50.
