Colombia has elected its first bisexual congresswoman along with a gay man. Angélica Lozano of the Green Alliance took the seat with 105,299 votes and received the second highest number of votes of the candidates for her party who ran for the Senate.
Lozano has had an active life in politics, working as a member of the Bogota City Council. Mauricio Toro, an openly gay man, also won a Green Alliance seat with 19,045 votes.
This election was the first since President Juan Manuel Santos’ government signed an agreement with the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia.
