While the production of the gay-themed play River and the Mountain in Uganda resulted in the arrest of producer David Cecil for violating the state ban on promoting homosexuality, actor Okuyo Joel Atiku ‘Prynce’ who plays the lead character of Samson (a gay factory owner who is slain by his workers), says that he regrets nothing about his role in the controversial play.

While the hope of such a production was naturally to encourage the beginnings of discussion of homosexuality, wide-spread reaction seems to confirm that the play may have further alienated the gay community from the mainstream. But this does not deter Prynce, who says that “I partook in the play because of the artistic challenge and to drive debate, to make people realize that gay people are part of society too.” Full story at Queerty.com.
