David Hockney Painting Breaks Record for Living Artist

Portrait of an Artist (Pool with Two Figures) is expected to be purchased for a record-breaking 80 million dollars, this figure breaks all records for a living artist. The painting, one of David Hockney’s most famous pieces, was won after a heated battle that took place between two phone bidders. The sale broke the previous record set by Jeff Koons whose Balloon Dog (Orange) sold for 58 million dollars.

The openly gay painter’s work Portrait of an Artist is based on Hockney’s real life. The magical pool setting is said to be located in France and young man swimming is the artist’s lover and muse.
