Country music legend Dolly Parton has spoken up for gay and lesbian marriage in her typical live-and-let-live candor. In an interview with Event, the “Jolene” singer said that she believes “everyone should be with who they love.” Seemingly nervous about her liberal position, the star said “I don’t want to be controversial or stir up a bunch of trouble, but people are going to love who they are going to love.” It has long been known that Parton was a supporter of the LGBTQ community, often giving shout outs to drag queens who come dressed as her to her concerts, as well as hosting Gay Days at her theme park Dollywood. While the 68-year-old admits that she didn’t know any gays growing up in Tennessee she says there are a lot of openly gay people in her family now. “I think gay couples should be allowed to marry. They should suffer just like us heterosexuals,” she quipped.
