Dutch Government Moves to Protect Gay Iraqis

As a result of serious and continuous violence against lesbian and gay people in Iraq, other countries are stepping in to protect them and offer help. The Netherlands, according to immigration minister Gerd Leers, will provide the LGBT community in Iraq the opportunity to qualify for asylum. The move comes after a foreign affairs ministry report that discussed the horrific treatment of gays and lesbians in Iraq and the deliberate targeting of innocent people by armed militias.
