On the premiere episode of Ellen’s 10th season, the openly awesome and lesbian Ellen Degeneres invited a bullied college student on her show. The student, Jordan Addison, was awoken in the middle of the night to find his car being vandalized with anti-gay slurs and violent words like “fag” and “die.” While his grandparents were hard-strapped for cash, they were able to muster up enough money to get the car operable again. When the story broke on the local news station around Roanoke, Virginia, an unlikely hero decided to help the boy. The owner of a local auto body shop lent his hand to help. Richard Henegar Jr., who owns Quality Auto Paint and Body, didn’t only repair the boy’s car for free, but pimped out his ride completely by repainting it, updating the interior, installing a new stereo, and putting on some new tires. “I just felt compelled to help this young man,” Henegar told Ellen. “He did not deserve to be the victim of such a violent hate crime and discrimination…I don’t take kindly to it. It’s not nice.”
Ellen invited the two on her show and, thanks to Cover Girl, the two were both awarded $25,000 each.
