Retired professional boxer Evander Holyfield was nearly KOed by the BBC after a bigoted comment about gays on UK’s Big Brother. The 51-year-old went on a cringe-worthy tirade when Luisa Zissman asked him if any boxers were openly gay. After first mumbling a “yes,” Holyfield continues by saying, “All I’m trying to say, you know handicap people are born, you can’t say because they are born that way you can’t fix them,” and continues, “Yes it is a choice. C’mon, how can you not say you ain’t gay unless you sleeping with the opposite sex?’
The championship boxer was then called into the Diary Room where he was reprimanded for his offensive comments and warned not to use such language again. While many are praising Channel 5’s reaction, others took to Twitter to either condemn the channel for not doing enough or for airing the clip in the first place. [DM]
