William Haberle Elementary School in Queens, New York has banned fifth grader Kameron Slade from delivering his winning class speech on marriage equality because the principal finds it inappropriate. Other students have commented that the speech is very supportive of same-sex couples. “Like President Obama, I believe that all people should have the right to marry whoever they want,” claims Kameron in his rejected speech. “Public schools, like all institutions of learning, are supposed to teach facts and relevant topics,” remarked David Badash from The New Civil Rights Movement. “Schools need to recognize that for students to learn about equality, they have to start teaching it.” [RawStory]
