After collecting over 162,000 signatures, Finland’s parliament is considering gay and lesbian marriage. The high number of signatures is the largest number in favor of a citizen’s initiative ever collected. Only 50,000 signatures are needed in order to have Parliament to consider the initiative; it garnered 50,000 on its first day. It wasn’t too much of a surprise how successful the petition was, over 58% of Finns favor gay and lesbian marriage. Finland is currently the only Scandinavian country to not have marriage equality.
