New photos show that the island nation of Tonga is continuing to grow thanks to the still active underwater volcanoes that created the archipelago. Currently, the Kingdom of Tonga, in the South Pacific, comprises Ata, Fonuafo’ou, Tofua, Kao, Lata’iki, Late, Fonualei, Toku, Niuatoputapu, and Tafahi. The new island is only about 65km of the nation’s capital and only began forming in January. It is believed that hotel owner GP Orbassano, his son, and a friend were the first people to set foot on the island and attempt to reach the island’s apex, which they think is around 250 meters high.
